Project 4: Transport

Description:
In co-operation with shippers and transporters, the various government parties involved and the European organisation of supervisory authorities such as  Euro Route Control (ERC), EURinSPECT is working on the preparation of a project designed to assess the costs of differences between Member States in supervision in the transport sector.

With the results of this project, EURinSPECT will contribute towards:
•    Elimination of unwanted differences in the approach to transport companies between inspectorates in the Member States,
•    Elimination of unintended differences between national rules and procedures in the Member States,
•    Elimination of European rules that obstruct simpler supervision of transport activities,
•    Improved co-ordination of policy between Dutch and other inspectorates,,
•    Improved use of possibilities for inspectorates to accept supervision and adopt supervisory practices from each other
•    More opportunities to develop supervisory specialisms in EU Member States, and to share these with each other,
•    More opportunities for risk-based supervision rather than rule-based supervision,
•    Other possibilities for reducing administrative and supervisory costs in Europe and in individual Member States,
•    A level playing field,
•    Harmonisation of rules and co-ordinated implementation at the EU and national levels.

FORUM / Platform of inspectorates:
EURinSPECT contributes to activities that promote an exchange of knowledge between different inspectorates in different Member States. Examples include:
•    Participation in EES conference in Portugal
•    Preparation of partnership with EAL
•    Partnership with VIDE (Dutch supervisory authorities)
•    Cross-border mini-conferences in the health care sector (snowball conferences in various Member States)
•    Exchange of knowledge and experience between inspectorates and between Member States.
